Due to rising sea levels and a sinking Tidal Basin seawall, flooding during high tide is common. To fix this, the National Park Service is embarking on a 112 million dollar project to make the seawall 4.75 feet taller around the Tidal Basin and 5.5 feet taller along West Potomac Park bordering the Potomac River. This project is expected to start in mid-2024.
